Ghana were crowned champions of the Regional Sevens West after a hard-fought 17-15 victory over Burkina Faso in the final at the Paa Joe Stadium in Kumasi, sealing qualification for the next round of the Rugby Africa Sevens World Cup qualifiers.

The hosts had been dominant throughout the tournament, opening with a 32-0 whitewash of Niger and a comfortable 50-0 win over Benin, before beating Benin again in the semi-finals to reach the decider. Burkina Faso, one of the standout sides of the weekend, provided a far sterner test in the final.

In front of hundreds of home supporters, Ghana edged a tense, closely contested match, holding their nerve through a nervy finish to claim the trophy by two points. Both Ghana and Burkina Faso secured qualification from the tournament, advancing to the final continental qualifying round in April 2022.

The win capped a perfect weekend for Ghanaian rugby, with the women's national team, the Eaglets, also finishing as overall champions of the women's category.
