Rugby Africa's Statement on the Passing of Aaron Jani
CAPE TOWN, South Africa – It is with deep sadness that Rugby Africa announces the passing of our beloved colleague Aaron Jani, former President of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) and Rugby Africa Treasurer, who passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, after a courageous battle against a long term illness.
Aaron was a visionary leader whose passion and influence were fundamental in the growth of rugby in Zimbabwe and across Africa. As a former Sable, he dedicated his life to the game, tirelessly working to develop and strengthen the sport at every level.
Herbert Mensah, President of Rugby Africa, said: “Aaron was an exceptional individual—thoughtful, intelligent, and deeply committed to rugby. Even in the face of illness, he demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. He often spoke with immense pride and admiration for his family. I extend my deepest sympathies to his loved ones, particularly his wife, during this incredibly difficult time. His presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit and contributions to the game will endure."
Rugby Africa extends its heartfelt condolences to Aaron’s family, friends, and the entire Zimbabwean rugby community. His legacy will live on in the sport he loved.
